On my way back, I found an image of home or I thought of exile
Video with sound, 15 mins. Installation with neon light, wall and grass. 2018
Those of us who belong to an imaginary home, a home colonised in a postcolonial world, while having a nomadic life in a post-internet age, end up developing a hybrid identity, constantly oscillating between flâneur and native. This installation realises home through exile and memory, using the internet and soundscapes to go from the historical to the virtual.
The work traces a trans-generational memory on home and return, building a landscape of destroyed Palestinian village “al-Barriyya” - whose inhabitants were famous for producing honey and sesame - with geographical coordinates and soundscape.
